Alas Kedaton Mongkey Forest
The Ramayana epic tells about Prince Rama helped by monkey army attacked Alengka Pura to save his beautiful wife Princess Dewi Sita. His enemy, Rahwana who kidnapped Sita, is a villainous giant that could die neither on earth nor in air. To kill him, Hanuman - the general of the monkey army-, pressed Rahwana between two halves of the holy mountain Mahameru. When he took Mahameru, a part of the mountain fell to the earth in Bali, along with a group of his monkey armies.

According to this legend, they are the ancestors of the monkeys you will see in Bali. Alas Kedaton is a small forest with a cluster of towering trees and hoe of hundreds of sprite monkeys. The forest and all tame monkeys are considered to be sacred. For many years no one has been permitted to chop the wood nor to catch any of the monkeys. The temple inside the forest where the monkeys living is dedicated to the god of water. The Hindu Balinese believe that the forest or monkeys are the property of the god of the temple.

Tanah Lot Temple
Tanah Lot is believed to be derived from the words: "tanah laut" means "a peace of land in the sea". This holy Hindu temple built on a small strong rocky isle sets apart from the mainland by a stone basin. The rock becomes beautiful as being carved by the incoming tide for many years. Though the temple is small, but for the Balinese this temple is very important as it is associated with Danghyang Nirartha - Ida Pedanda Sakti Wau Rauh- a holy Hindu priest who made a holy trip on foot through the island at the end of 15th century.

He once arrived in this village and took a rest in this small rocky isle. He healed many sick people from the fishermens village. But he did not want to move from this place and advised the fishermen to built a temple there as he felt it to be a holy and fitting place to worship God. The fishermen kept the promise and built a temple we could see today.
